Edenverse v0.2.0: Biomes, Bosses & Beyond

Edenverse v0.2.0 is our largest release to date. Spanning over 50 commits across 5 weeks, this update transforms Edenverse from a farming sandbox into a full-featured adventure game with combat, crafting, quests, and dungeon exploration.

Dungeon System

Procedural Dungeons: A procedural dungeon generation system was implemented, creating unique dungeon layouts each time a player enters. Dungeon scenes include their own collision maps, portals, and interactive objects.

Boss Battles: 4 biome-specific boss entities were added, each with unique walk sprites and attack patterns. The boss battle system features health tracking, damage calculations, and rewards on defeat. Boss battles were refined across 3 separate patches to improve collision detection, animation timing, and difficulty balancing.

Boss Maps: Dedicated boss maps were created for each biome, complete with custom tilesets and environmental assets. The final boss map received special attention with a unique visual style.

Gear Crafting & Avatar Customization

Crafting System: Players can now craft gear from boss-dropped recipes. The gear system was updated twice during this cycle: first to implement the base crafting flow, then to align gear sprites with the base player model for consistent visual rendering.

Avatar Customization: A full UI and in-game avatar customization system was introduced. Players can modify their appearance through a dedicated customization panel, and changes persist across sessions.

Quest System Expansion

Quest Auto-Complete: Quests now automatically complete when all objectives are met, removing the need for manual turn-in.

Boss & Crafting Quests: Gear crafting and boss battle achievements were added as quest objectives. This ties the new combat and crafting systems directly into the progression loop.

NPCs & Quest Items: NPCs were added across all biome maps with unique IDs and dialogue. Quest items (boss recipes, map keys) were distributed across biomes to guide exploration.

Internationalization & Auth Redesign

i18n: Full internationalization support was added using Redux-based state management. The entire UI is now translatable, laying the groundwork for multi-language support.

Auth & Loading Redesign: The authentication and loading screens were completely redesigned with a modern, polished look. The connect UI was updated alongside the auth flow for a seamless first-time experience.

Whitelist Role: A new Whitelist role was introduced, allowing early access gating for selected players.

SpacetimeDB Migration

v1.11.1 Upgrade: The server was migrated to SpacetimeDB v1.11.1, requiring updates to table schemas, reducers, and client bindings. Several bugs were squashed during the migration.

Auto-Reconnect: An automatic reconnection mechanism was implemented. If the WebSocket connection drops, the client now retries with exponential backoff, keeping players connected without manual refreshes.

Audio & Visual Polish

Sound Effects: UI and in-game sound effects were added extensively: player and tool animation audio, boss battle sounds, and scene transition cues. The audio system covers over 12 distinct interaction types.

New Geodes: Additional geode types were introduced, expanding the mining loot table with new visual varieties.

Sprite Updates: Biome boss walk sprites, farming grass tilesets, and tool animation frames were all updated. Scene transitions were stabilized with proper state management.

Technical Improvements

Source Code Protection: Static imports were adopted and source code obfuscation was enabled for production builds, protecting game logic from client-side inspection.

Tooling HUD: A completely redesigned tooling HUD was shipped, synchronizing equipped tools with the server and resolving a critical Phaser freeze bug that occurred during rapid tool switching.

Farming Isolation: Farming data now uses a composite key system, ensuring complete data isolation between players on the same server.

Map Layers: ground and water layers were added with proper collision debuggers, improving map rendering fidelity and debugging workflows.
